Acne Habits and Practices - Persuadable Research Corporation

Background

The only thing constant is change!  On an internal brainstorming call, we considered the need to modify our sampling process when we target category users. We had the method identified but we needed to make sure we understood all aspects of making this change before we started rolling it out in client studies.  We decided to do a study on acne because of a client we were working with at the time.

Research Objectives

We interviewed a census-representative sample of adults aged 18+ with the following goals:

  • Test out methods to get a representative sample to start a survey so that we could establish an incidence for completes.
  • Learn habits and practices of those suffering acne.
  • Gain an incidence of other personal care categories in which we are currently working.

Insights

  • 45% of adults have never suffered acne
  • Of those that have suffered 15% described their acne as severe.
  • Most adults treat acne on their own but 15% seek professional help as needed
  • Recommendations from others (professional, friend / family member, or online reviews) are the most influential reasons to try a new product.
  • When choosing an acne product efficacy, non-irritating, good value and works quickly top the list of importance
  • Surprisingly, containing specific or natural ingredients was of much less importance
