Background
In January of 2024, we set out to explore various aspects of self-care. Our first study was to find out what self-care meant to respondents. Within that study, we learned that mental self-care was rated as the most important area of self-care. This information was the jumping-off point for our second study, launched in April 2024.
Insights
- Nearly 2 in 5 adults believe mental self-care means taking time for yourself / prioritizing yourself.
- Over 60% of adults say they manage their mental self-care without professional help. Younger adults are more likely to seek professional help.
- 83% of respondents report at least one condition that impacts their mental wellness.
- Less than 1 in 3 report responsibilities such as school, work, or caring for elderly family members to negatively impact their mental health.
- Boomers, Gen X, and women are more negatively affected by the increase in prices of basics.
- We asked respondents to imagine creating a mental self-care gift basket for a family member, friend, or loved one. What is included in the gift baskets varies greatly by demographic group.
We found so many insights into this very important and relevant area of self-care.
